The First Southend Volunteer Awards

The inaugural Southend Volunteers Awards took place on the 27th June 2024 and Atlantic Pacific Group were delighted to be lead sponsors of the event.

Atlantic Pacific have been sponsors of the Basildon Volunteer Awards for the past two years and after admiring that initiative so much, felt that similar awards should take place in Southend-on-Sea.

With the objective of establishing an awards program, Atlantic Pacific Director and Unity In Community Executive Chairwoman – Christine Nichols – contacted Southend Association of Voluntary Services (SAVS) and suggested the idea to them.

Taking on the role as lead sponsor for the awards, Atlantic Pacific set about attracting further sponsors and managed to attract 6 more to help get the inaugural event up and running.

The awards covered 8 categories and attracted over 200 nominations. The first award ceremony took place at the Roslin Beach Hotel in Thorpe Bay last Thursday evening and were hosted by David Hurst DL, High Sheriff of Essex.

Christine herself said “It’s fantastic that we have been able to put together these awards which recognises the hard work, commitment and dedication of over 9,000 people who volunteer for charities across the City of Southend.”

“A huge thank you to SAVS, who have taken and developed this idea and made it into such a fabulous event in such a short space of time”.

“I’d also like to thank all the other sponsors : Ipeco, Broom Consultants, Unitruc, Hireco, Eagle Cargo Services, Countrywide South East, Roslin Beach Hotel, Southend City College and Wild in Art for getting involved and helping to support these awards that celebrate the unsung heroes of Southend-on-Sea”.

Christine added “A big congratulations to all the fantastic finalists and winners”.
