Christine Visits Students After They Raise £1,000 for Lady McAdden

Students from The Hathaway Academy have donated £1,000 to Lady McAdden Breast Cancer Trust after selecting the charity for their First Give social action project.

The First Give programme works with secondary schools to encourage social responsibility, helping young people learn more about local charities and campaign on their behalf. Over several months, the students researched Lady McAdden’s work, raised awareness and prepared a presentation explaining how the charity supports the community.

As part of the project, they asked thoughtful questions about the role of Lady McAdden nurses and how any funding would be used. The Trust supported their preparation by providing information leaflets, pens and a special good-luck video.

Alongside their presentation, the students organised a bake sale and raffle, helping them secure an impressive £1,000 donation for the charity.

Christine Nichols, Lady McAdden’s Chair of Trustees and Unity In Community Chairwoman, later addressed a school assembly to thank students, explain more about Lady McAdden’s work, and to describe how the funds would make a difference.

The project began after one student noticed the charity’s shop in Tilbury, demonstrating how a single moment of curiosity can inspire meaningful community action.
